Yes. There are no cheap hotels near the airport, but the "centro" is not too far. The Cathedral mention above is a good choice, but there are cheaper choices, if your budget is lower.
I stayed further out, near the Angel Monument. An early morning (5am) taxi gort me to the airport in 30 minutes.

Of the
Ramada Aeropuerto Mexico at $124 a night
or the
Camino Real Aeropuerto at $165 a night,
the Ramada is the better place.
Or stay a little further away at the Hotel Catedral (at $40 a night) and just get up earlier for the Taxi ride through the congested streets.

Holiday Inn Plaza Dali is about $82 a night, I recommend this Hotel, since I’ve stayed here many times, very clean and a lot of SECURITY.
It is about 2 miles from the airport and has a free 24 hr shuttle. The Hotels near the airport are very expensive, but the Hotel Riazor is about $84 a night looks OK, and is just across the airport.
I would not stay Downtown if you need to be near the airport, believe me sometimes the delays could be from 20 min up to 4 hrs, since in Mexico city there are many manifestations. Sometimes these people decide to close any streets or highways.
